The Mattress Unboxed verdict: Should you buy a Simba Hybrid Mattress?

The Simba Hybrid Mattress is an excellent choice for those seeking a comfortable, supportive, and temperature-regulating sleep surface with strong motion isolation and edge support. However, its firmness might not suit all sleepers, and its higher price point and weight may be considerations for potential buyers. The Simba Hybrid mattress would certainly be one of our most recommended mattress buys. It is consistently popular with both customers and the press, and has built a well-deserved reputation as a great investment.

The Simba Hybrid mattress would certainly be one of our most recommended mattress buys. It is consistently popular with both customers and the press, and has built a well-deserved reputation as a great investment.

The fact that it’s a hybrid mattress gives the Simba a different feel to traditional memory foam mattresses. The combination of latex and microcoils helps the mattress to respond to pressure quickly and the mattress has better edge support than many of its competitors (due, in no small part to the extra layer of foam placed around the coils). The Simba Hybrid mattress isn’t the firmest on the market, so would be rated as of a medium firmness.

A great choice for Side Sleepers.

What kind of sleepers does the Simba mattress suit?

As with all mattresses, the Simba Hybrid doesn’t suit everyone. The most common complaint is that the mattress is too hot so, whilst the materials are very breathable, it’s probably not the best choice if you’re naturally a very warm person! However, the Simba Hybrid Pro has an extra layer of wool, which is specifically designed to help with cooling so this would be a good choice for warmer customers.

Some users also reported the Simba mattress ‘dipping’ on one side, particularly those of a heavier build. It is, obviously, important to turn these ‘bed in a box’ mattresses regularly and this can help prevent dipping on one side. In addition, Simba do provide extra side support to help try and combat this issue. We’d also suggest buying a bigger size mattress if possible, so that you’re sleeping away from the edges of the mattress.

With much to recommend it, the Simba mattress is definitely a top contender for those in the market for a new mattress. Our Simba Hybrid mattress review will hopefully help you decide if it’s the one for you!

The Independent rated the Simba Hybrid mattress as one of the 18 best on the market: The Simba mattress is marginally softer than average and is a great all-rounder, winning particular brownie points for lighter people who sleep on their backs. It’s stable, keeps sweat at bay if you get hot at night and you won’t need to replace it for years, as it’s as robust as they come – there’s a 100-night sleep trial period available too.

The Independent

The Simba Hybrid mattress also received a Good Housekeeping Institute seal of approval: After a full month of sleeping on the Simba Hybrid mattress we definitely found that it suited all firmness levels.

Good Housekeeping Institute

The Daily Mail awarded the Simba Hybrid mattress 10/10 in their Simba review: Because the Simba mattress is a hybrid — a mixture of memory foam and pocket springs — it didn’t pack down quite as small as the others and was far heavier. But it was definitely worth our exertions — comfortingly squishy and satisfyingly supportive, it lulled me into the best night’s sleep I’ve had in years.

Daily Mail

The Evening Standard named the Simba one of its best mattresses of 2018: You don’t expect to find yourself talking about mattresses at parties – who wants to be that person? – but that, regrettably, is exactly what happened after sleeping on the Simba. It was difficult to avoid: this thing is absurdly comfortable, both snuggly and supportive at the same time (a bit like Mark Darcy in a Christmas jumper).

Evening Standard

Love my Simba mattress! It has made a massive difference to my sleep pattern. Prior to renewing my mattress I was waking numerous times during the night. I was also experiencing aches and pain when I got out of bed in the morning. I feel such a difference since I got my new mattress. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We got the king size Simba Hybrid Pro and were curious to see what all the fuss was about. And... It’s such a comfortable mattress! Any sleep position works and I’ve actually been able to relax and enjoy sleep for the first time in ages.

Simba Customer

I suffer with poor sleep due to a damaged shoulder and neck. Straight from night one my sleep has been amazing and my sore shoulder and neck have actually got better. If you value your sleep and, considering we spend a quarter of our life in bed, you need to buy this mattress. (May 2020)

Always ‘liked’ my bed as we had a standard memory foam but after spending a night at a hotel that uses Simba mattresses, we started looking into buying one. Now my wife and I look forward to our days off just so we can spend more time in bed! My wife is only 40kg and petite whereas I’m 6ft 5in and 120kg, but there is absolutely no roll together. Sounds quite sad to be hyping up a mattress, but it’s seriously that good.

Simba Customer

I used to have such an uncomfortable night’s sleep. My bad back kept getting worse with no respite at bedtime, my bad hip took a constant battering from flipping from side to side like a beached salmon from just being uncomfortable. Step forward Simba and its amazing products! I now sleep soundly and in luxury comfort and it’s the best night’s sleep you’ll have this century. Don’t delay; buy a mattress, pillows and sheet today.

Simba Customer

Very comfortable but at the same time firm enough. This has got to be the best mattress by far. I tried a couple of other brands before this one, which never come up to expectations. Love it and recommended it to a few family members & friends.

Simba Customer

Excellent product and service. My wife has had spinal surgery and suffers with pain, so after some online research we opted for the Simba as a much needed and fast replacement. Delivered on time, within 2 days to Northern Ireland. I'm happy to report a few days later all my pain and stiffness were gone! My wife loves it too, also, she is half my weight so the fact it suits us both is a real plus. Very satisfied customers. Highly recommend.

Do note that the number of springs listed below is based on a king sized mattress.

Firmness, Comfort & Support

It's important to make sure that you choose the right firmness and support for your needs when you pick a mattress. Our handy bullet points below condense the important information.

Firmness, comfort & support details

Dropdown arrow
  • Due to its layer of latex, the Simba Hybrid mattress is both responsive and comfortable, and is highly breathable.
  • The layer of microcoils help to create a good level of sinkage without any pressure points being created.
  • The microcoils also help to add a little more bounce than you would normally get from a foam mattress.
  • The contour and hug of the Simba Hybrid mattress provides a great mix of sinkage, contour and support.
  • Lighter weight sleepers may find that the Simba Hybrid mattress is a little too firm for them, as the mattress will not ‘sink’ as much to contour round them.
  • Simba’s mattresses are ideal for couples of differing weight, as there is no discernable ‘roll’ towards each other whilst sleeping. However, the mattress can dip on one side over time.

What base should I put my Simba on?

Dropdown arrow

Simba mattresses work on any bed frames but if you’re using a slatted bed frame, you should make sure that the slats are no further than 3 inches apart.
