Should I buy an Ikea Mattress?

Ikea mattresses are always a popular choice with customers, probably because the stores are so ubiquitous and easy to access. Whilst they offer a lot of budget options, you should be aware that the cheaper Ikea mattresses are probably only suitable for spare rooms and occasional use. You won’t get the quality available with the other ‘bed in a box’ brands with the thinner options.

Ikea’s more expensive mattresses do offer good quality and tend to score highly with customers for back support in particular. They are rated as much firmer than other brands, which is obviously a matter of preference.

A consistent issue, however, is that Ikea mattresses tend to sag in the middle far more quickly than many of the newer brands. If you want to buy an Ikea mattress, we’d recommend the Hidrasund, Morgedal and Hovag as the best options.

The Independent named the Ikea Hidrasund one of its best mattresses of 2020, saying: You’ll notice a difference as soon as you lie on it and that goes for all body shapes and sizes. The pocket-sprung mattress also has an extra layer of mini pocket springs, oodles of natural fillings including wool, latex and coconut fibre, plus a layer of natural latex. This combination is highly supportive, including on your key pressure points, but it’s also soft and snug, as well as breathable.

The Independent

T3 included the Ikea Morgedal in their best mattresses of 2020 collection: Ikea’s mattress is exactly what you’d expect from a big lump of foam, comfortable and fairly immune to the movements of your partner.

T3 Magazine

Real Homes rated the Ikea Hovag mattress highly: Breaking news:the Ikea Hovag mattress is suddenly being celebrated as the best budget mattress you could ever buy. In fact, it might just be the best mattress you'll ever buy, period.

Real Homes

We have always avoided mattresses with any memory foam component but this was the most comfortable one we tried in-store and decided to take a departure from our usual choice of pocket sprung (we move around a lot and but mattresses more frequently than is perhaps typical). It is firm enough for our preference and whilst it does retain a bit of heat, the addition of a cooling mattress pad makes it super comfortable during these warmer months and we are very pleased with our choice. This mattress replaced one that cost me 3 times as much but never gave me the good sleep this one has! (April 2020)

At 6'4 and 17 stone I'm quite a big lad. For this reason I have always liked firm mattresses. Anything less than very firm just doesn't support me and I tend to get lower backache. Our previous mattress was very firm when new but became very soft in only three years. The Hidrasund in firm is perfect for me. I'd say it is 8/10 firm. My much smaller and lighter wife really likes it too. I had a mountaineering accident earlier in the year and broke a few ribs and have had a bad back since, made worse by my old soft mattress and the new Hidrasund really feels like it will help me recover. I have had this mattress a little while now and I am delighted with it. It is excellent value and superbly comfortable. I am amazed because it has replaced a much more expensive mattress and is far better. I would recommend it to anyone because it should not be overlooked. It is very comfortable and well made.(February 2020)

This is the best mattress I have slept on. I have backaches if I sleep on soft mattress. So I always buy a firm mattress. It's quite firm and soft at the same time. It is the right thickness so it does not sink in with body weight, as me and wife weigh 17 stone. We have been using it for few months now. Even our parents who are in late 60's loved it. Great value for the price. (March 2020)
