Should I buy an Emma Mattress?

Emma’s mattresses have a rightly deserved positive reputation as a great buy, being consistently popular with both customers and the press. Both mattresses have a medium firmness, but still feel bouncy and, with their zoned support, offer good pressure relief for all sleeping positions. The combination of foams in the mattress means that they are extremely breathable and works hard to keep sleepers cool at night. The Emma Hybrid also adds in a layer of supportive pocket springs for even more body support and to aid in circulation.

Whilst the Emma mattresses can be a good choice for sleepers that move about a lot at night, couples may find that they’re not the best mattresses for motion transfer. If you’re a light sleeper, you may find that a partner’s movements wake you up. However, both mattresses are good at coping with sleepers of differing weights, with no danger of sleepers rolling towards each other. For an all foam mattress, the Emma Original actually provides pretty decent edge support. The Emma Hybrid is even better at edge support, with its layer of springs.

One thing to note is that Emma’s mattresses are softer than other bed in a box brands. However, this slightly softer approach is clearly extremely popular with many customers.

With much to recommend it, the Emma mattress is definitely a top contender for those in the market for a new mattress. Our review will hopefully help you decide if it’s the one for you!

The Independent rated the Emma mattress as one of the 18 best on the market: You'll find as you go to sleep your body gradually sinks into the foam, but not too far, meaning it's the ideal mix of comfort and support. When two are in the bed you don't feel any dips from the other person either, meaning you can both sleep in your desired position without decreasing the other's comfort levels. We found it was especially good for back sleepers too as it felt much more supportive than cheaper models.

The Independent

The Evening Standard named the Emma one of its best mattresses of 2018: The Emma mattress is soft, comfortable, and feels far more sturdily built than most other mattresses towards the softer end of the spectrum… In other words, it’s a potential lifeline for people who share their bed with a restless sleeper. It provides blissful, supportive comfort on your side or front.

Evening Standard

Emma mattresses are a firm favourite with Which?: Described by Which? Magazine as ‘exceptional’, the Emma Original is the second Which? Best Buy award to be won by Europe’s leading bed-in-a-box brand.

Which? Magazine

This mattress has made an enormous difference to the quality of our sleep. We feel comfortable and supported throughout the night and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the new day. We wholeheartedly recommend this mattress. (July 2020)

Since swapping my average mattress for the Emma mattress last December, I experience less disturbed sleep, much needed comfort and support for my back. It really does what it says on the tin - for instance when my partner gets up in the middle of the night it doesn't wake me at all. I would definitely recommend this mattress to anyone. (June 2020)

Since our Emma mattress settled into shape it is now so comfortable and my back no longer hurts. I also used to get back muscle cramps and I don’t get those anymore either. The mattress also absorbs my partners movement so I don’t wake up as much which is so good! Would definitely recommend an Emma mattress! (April 2020)

To be honest, I only bought this for our spare room, but now I sleep on it every night. I’ve been sleeping on various ‘industry leading memory foam mattresses’ for the past decade that are twice the price. They and Emma are superb; silent, supple and supportive - especially good when sharing a bed with someone else. But the Emma mattress WINS, because it also gives superior ventilation and leaves you feeling fresher and cleaner after a night of sleep. Hands down the most comfortable mattress I’ve slept on. When you then consider it is also half the price of my original - I’m speechless. Will definitely buy again. (November 2019)

I had some reservations on ordering a mattress in the post but I can honestly say it’s the best mattress we've ever slept on. I was honestly expecting to take them up on their offer of free returns but we still have it 4 months later! The memory foam offers firm support but is also soft and snuggly! Its genius! Super happy customers! (September 2019)

Emma Customer

We have been used to a very firm bed so I was not sure if the Emma Mattress would be too soft but actually it is just right. I was also concerned about indentation but again, there are not any major dips or ridges after 3 months+ use so we are really very happy! Lovely comfortable mattress and slept fine from the very first night of putting it on! It's beautifully made, full of tech and looks lovely! Great buy! Highly recommend! (August 2018)

Emma Customer

Best mattress I have ever bought! It does exactly what it states. My husband and me sleep in various positions and were very restless before we bought this mattress. We could feel every movement each other were making during the night, but no longer. We have such a good deep sleep now; we wake with no aches and feel refreshed. I would highly recommend purchasing this mattress. (July 2018)
